WHAT IS A PEARL and HOW TO IDENTIFY IT

Pearl is one of those colors that has most breeders baffled in not only how to describe it but also in how to produce this magnificious color.
We hope the information and pictures here will help clear up the confusion.

A PEARL is born with a silvery taupe color with a mauve or rose shading to the hair. Noses are a self color of mauve/rose. The noses are NEVER blue or chocolate.

PEARL is derieved from a combination of dilute genes and is in actuality a DOUBLE dilute chocolate.
BOTH parents of a pearl must be or carry BOTH chocolate AND Blue.

You should never breed a Pearl to a Pearl. The combination can cause an increase of the chances of ALOPECIA or better known as Blue Hair Disease which can lead anywhere from a thin hair coat to total baldness.

These are both PEARLS

They are solid body with white on chest and small amount on tips of feet.

Notice the dilute chocolate look with the mauve/rose shading.

Also notice the very light colored nose.

A pearl carries the same genetic code as the Isabella does in the Dachshund Breed

This is another example of PEARL

This is a Pearl/Tan piebald.

Notice the silvery appearance. It will get darker as the pup gets older.
