Run - N - Ridge

This kennel apparently has forgotten to stop & read the rules as they are waltzing into rings everywhere with their eye-catching little merle dogs & walking away with blue ribbons.  They appear to be unstoppable & if rumor is correct they are also satisfying John Q Publics desire for these gorgeous animals.

Run-N-Ridge was at the latest dog show and once again walked away with a purse full of ribbons on their gorgeous Rat Terriers.   3 of their Merles walked away with their heads high with Grand Champions under their collar.  2 of their gorgeous full coated blues were barking with joy when they were given enough points to take their championships home with them.  This kennel is known for breaking the rules and producing dogs that other breeders disapprove of due to their pattern but it seems that the judges just can't help themselves and are always giving them high marks.

While in our search for the cutest doggie around for our article we came across this gorgeous little gal with her unbelievable colors and pattern. This dog is able to stop traffic with her eye-catching style.

Her $1200.00 price tag however might be a bit more than most can afford.

2009 Spring Show

Did you miss the 2009 Annual

spring ACR dog Show?  If so you missed Run-N-Ridge once again walk away with more than their fair share of ribbons.  Run-N-Ridge showed their dogs in 4 categories, took Top honors in 2 and Runner-Up in the other 2.  Of course one of the Top Honors went to a Run-N-Ridge bred dog making them a 3 out of 4 category winner.  If that wasn't enough "Run-N-Ridges Streak of Lightening" took his 11th undefeated match to become "Best In Show".

WHO KNEW?

Who knew when Run-N-Ridge's owner decided NOT to follow the newly-adopted rules & go her own way that success was part of her future?

When fellow Rat Terrier breeders pushed for the brindle & merles to become a disqualification, the owner of Run-N-Ridge who loved these little dogs with their stripes & spots refused to lay down & roll over.   The owner claims to of taken much criticism & heard public outcry from the other breeders who wanted her to cease raising these type pattern dogs.  Those criticizing her also went so far as to post articles about her dogs on internet message boards. Enflamed  E-mails arrived daily for many months when push came to shove & Run-N-Ridge stood her ground that she wasn't going to follow the Jones & give up her beloved pets simply because those that were ignorant, uneducated & uninformed gave in to pressure about the genetic association with the patterns.

TRUTH being that there are NO genetic problems associated with either the Brindle or the single merle "Mm" gene.  Neither are either genes likely to take over as they are both dominant genes and one parent MUST be of that pattern to produce offspring of those patterns. 

LUCKY for the Rat Terrier world that there are still folks out there with backbone and the stamina to back it.

LUCKY for Run-N-Ridge that she was able to find a registry who not only understood her plight but was more than willing to allow her Purebred Registration of her merles AND allow them in the show ring so they could strut their stuff.

What are the Odds?

What are the odds that a breeder can go against the majority of the breeders of a breed & make a success out of her refusal to play by the accepted standards?  Well they may be low but Run-N-Ridge did just that & has achieved more success than most of those who condemned her for her determination to follow her own path.  Of course it didn't hurt that her dogs were not only 'flashy' in every way but cute as a bug in a rug to boot.  Not only has she achieved success in placing her dogs in beloved homes but when she struts them onto the red carpet in the show ring they generally leave with another blue ribbon to their credit for a wall already lined with ribbons.
